The production of anionic emulsion polyacrylamide (APAM) is mainly achieved through the inverse emulsion polymerization process. In this process, water-soluble monomers (acrylamide and anionic monomers) are dispersed into tiny droplets in the oil phase with the help of emulsifiers, and a polymerization reaction is initiated to generate a high-molecular-weight polymer emulsion.
Compared with the traditional aqueous solution polymerization, inverse emulsion polymerization has advantages such as rapid heat dissipation during the reaction, fast product dissolution speed, and narrow molecular weight distribution.
